Portland International Scholars Academy (PISA) is an optional full-day high èßäÊÓÆµ program located at McDaniel and Roosevelt high èßäÊÓÆµs. Students who have beginning English proficiency are eligible. Students in this program are fully integrated into the comprehensive high èßäÊÓÆµ.
Students may also choose to attend their neighborhood èßäÊÓÆµ that has ELD support, but does not have a ELD program.
Criteria:
- Eligible for high èßäÊÓÆµ.
- Student scores Emerging on ELPA21/ Screener.
All PPS high èßäÊÓÆµ èßäÊÓÆµ that fit the above criteria may apply to attend the PISA program at McDaniel or Roosevelt as space allows. Contact Chau Le 971-334-9363 at the McDaniel Site and Braulio Garica 503-916-2000 x82365 at Roosevelt for more information.
The PISA/ELD program at McDaniel and Roosevelt High School offers classes for the core content areas of ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies in which teachers use appropriate scaffolding to make grade level standards aligned content comprehensible for èßäÊÓÆµ, while èßäÊÓÆµ take elective and CTE classes with their mainstream peers. The core ELD program classes are for two years. Students then transition to all mainstream classes the following year. SIFE/SLIFE (èßäÊÓÆµ with interrupted education) are eligible to take foundational courses in literacy and math.
The goal for èßäÊÓÆµ in the PISA program is to earn a high èßäÊÓÆµ diploma or to transition to PCC YES if they will age out at 21 before earning required credits.
