For questions or more information, please contact the Clothing Center Coordinator: Sharon Meigh-Chang at 503.293.0783 or ptaclothingcenter@comcast.net
The PTA Clothing Center is located at the Marshall High School Campus: 3901 SE 91st Ave • Room B-60 ().
The center is open for èßäÊÓƵ to receive clothing on Monday and Thursday èßäÊÓƵ days from 10am-1pm, September through April.
Sunnyside is responsible for sending 3-5 volunteers twice a year to staff the Clothing Closet. If we do not send volunteers, the Clothing Closet cannot operate. Please consider donating a few hours between 9:30-1:30 (or the whole time) to this fantastic service.
Sunnyside's dates for volunteering at the PTA Clothing Center are Thursday November 14, 2024 and Thursday January 30, 2025. .
PURPOSE: Since 1964, the center's sole purpose has been to furnish age-appropriate clothing that fits children that need these services. By caring for the basic needs of our youth and allowing them to dress like their peers, the center encourages positive self-esteem, academic success, and regular class attendance. The center shares the Portland Council PTA's purpose to give every child a chance.
QUALIFYING CHILDREN: All Portland Public School children that do not have access to age-appropriate clothing are eligible to be referred to the PTA Clothing Center.
REFERRAL PROCESS: Portland Public School principals or èßäÊÓƵ secretaries fill out a èßäÊÓƵ-year referral form for each student needing the clothing center's services. Once the student has the completed form, they may come to the center once before winter break and once after winter break of that same èßäÊÓƵ year.
CLOTHING: The center accepts donations of gently-used clothing from èßäÊÓƵ-run clothing drives, the èßäÊÓƵ lost and found items, and concerned community members. Donations of money from local PTAs, individuals, and caring businesses provide children with new jeans, underwear, and socks.
STAFF: The Portland Council PTA Clothing Center is a committee of the Portland Council PTA. It shares the same non-profit status and is staffed by volunteers from all èßäÊÓƵs within the district. Each èßäÊÓƵ is responsible for a portion of the volunteer time needed to keep the Center running successfully.
