Land Acknowledgement
It is important to acknowledge the ancestors of this place and recognize that we are here because of the sacrifices forced upon them. In remembering these communities, we honor their legacy, their lives, and their descendents -- past, present, and future.
Where Portland stands today are the historic homelands of several bands of Chinook-speaking people (including many Multnomah, Clackamas, and Watlata/Cascade villages). There were also Kalapuya (Tualatin villages) nearby and the Molalla people in the Willamette Valley. Today, their descendants are primarily members of the Grand Ronde and Siletz Confederated Tribes, with Chinook and other tribal relations at Warm Springs, Yakama, and the Chinook Nation.
In the reconstruction of this institution, let us acknowledge that it was founded upon exclusion and erasures of many indigenous peoples, including those on whose land we are standing upon today. This acknowledgement demonstrates a commitment from Lincoln High School to work to dismantle the ongoing legacies and ideologies of settler colonialism.
Please join us for our "Back to School Prep Days", where new èßäÊÓƵ

Save paper and time.
We’re excited to share an important update that will help us
create a stronger, healthier, and more focused learning
environment for all èßäÊÓƵ.
Starting in the 2025–26 èßäÊÓƵ year, Lincoln High School
will become a phone-free campus using the
Yondr Phone-Free Schools Program. This change comes
in response to the new Oregon state law and the
èßäÊÓƵ district-wide cell phone policy,
both of which now require èßäÊÓƵ to keep phones put
away during the èßäÊÓƵ day.
Under this program:
Each student will receive a personally assigned Yondr
pouch to securely store their phones, smartwatches, and
AirPods each morning.
Pouches remain locked during the èßäÊÓƵ day.
At dismissal, èßäÊÓƵ unlock their pouches at
designated stations.
This approach has already been used successfully in
other PPS high èßäÊÓƵs and nationwide, helping èßäÊÓƵ
èßäÊÓƵ present and engaged.
? Why Go Phone-Free?
Research and experience show clear benefits:
? Better academic performance
? Higher student engagement and focus
? Fewer classroom disruptions
? Stronger peer connections and social interaction
? Parents & Guardians as Partners
Real change happens when èßäÊÓƵs and families
work together. You can support your student by:
Talking about the benefits of being fully present at
èßäÊÓƵ
Encouraging them to take responsibility for caring for
and bringing their Yondr pouch daily
Reinforcing that phones aren’t needed during class time

SchoolPay is an online web tool that allows families

or send a check with their èßäÊÓƵ.
The Yondr pouch is a secure bag that is used to store an individual’s mobile device or devices. It is secured and unlocked with a special locking device.
We are seeking to limit distractions in the classroom and improve overall student engagement, mental health and well-being. No phones in èßäÊÓƵ is an executive order and district-wide policy.
During Back to School Prep Days (August 18 & 19), all èßäÊÓƵ will be assigned a Yondr pouch to secure their phone, smartwatch, and/or earbuds. The pouch is the property of the èßäÊÓƵ and is considered on loan to the student during the èßäÊÓƵ year. Students are responsible for the Yondr pouch at all times and for bringing the pouch to and from èßäÊÓƵ each day.
Upon entering èßäÊÓƵ, èßäÊÓƵ will turn off their phone, place the phone inside of the Yondr pouch, and lock it in front of staff. The pouch will be unlocked at the end of the èßäÊÓƵ day in the main lobby area.
Students are in possession of their phone – in their Yondr pouch – for the entire èßäÊÓƵ day. We will advise èßäÊÓƵ to store the pouch in their backpacks and lockers where it is completely safe.
If a student needs to leave èßäÊÓƵ early for an approved early dismissal, medical emergency, athletic event, or èßäÊÓƵ sponsored trip, èßäÊÓƵ will be able to unlock their pouches at èßäÊÓƵ prior to their departure. If returning to èßäÊÓƵ during the instructional day, the Yondr pouch would be locked upon re-entry to the building.
We want our èßäÊÓƵ to be engaged in their learning, but we understand that emergencies will occur. If you need to contact your child during the èßäÊÓƵ day, call the main office or the attendance office at 518-629-3300. There are phones in every classroom and office in the èßäÊÓƵ. In addition, all èßäÊÓƵ have access to their Chromebooks throughout the day. Parents can email their èßäÊÓƵ directly and/or send a text they can see after they unlock their phone.
Every location in the èßäÊÓƵ is equipped with a phone that can dial 911. Our staff is trained to execute safety and emergency procedures. We will direct èßäÊÓƵ to safety first. Students and staff follow our èßäÊÓƵ’s emergency preparedness protocols. Communication with parents will occur through the district’s mass notification and communication tools.
During lockdowns, èßäÊÓƵ and staff are instructed to be silent. The response action guidelines outlined in the building-level safety plan will be followed with community notification for all emergency situations.
The Yondr pouch is property of the èßäÊÓƵ. If a student damages their pouch or is caught on their phone, they will be subject to disciplinary action. An administrator will collect the phone/pouch and call home:
Note: Damage consists of any signs that the physical integrity of the pouch has been compromised, whether intentional or unintentional, as determined by the èßäÊÓƵ or Yondr staff. If lost or damaged, replacement pouches can be purchased for $30.
The phone may be turned over to main office staff and secured in the èßäÊÓƵ until the end of the èßäÊÓƵ day or parents can be contacted to come to èßäÊÓƵ and pick the phone up.
Students who have a documented medical condition and who need a personal device for monitoring their condition will be provided with an alternate Yondr pouch which has immediate access.
Students will be able to use headphones with cords to connect to their Chromebooks. All Bluetooth devices, including AirPods, smartwatches and other headphones, must be stored in the Yondr pouch.
The èßäÊÓƵ has many afterèßäÊÓƵ programs and athletic events. If the building is still open, èßäÊÓƵ can return to unlock their pouch.
The Yondr FAQs will be updated as the implementation begins. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the èßäÊÓƵ directly. Call 503-916-5200 or email Vice Principal Travis Johnson tjohnson1@pps.net.
All èßäÊÓƵ at Portland Public High Schools have PPS student email. Students usernames are first initial, last name, last four digits of their student ID.

Congratulations to Ricardo Barber and Hang Jones! And thank you both for everything you do to make a difference in the lives our èßäÊÓƵ.
The assignment their teacher gave them was simple – make a short film that begins with a phone call and ends with someone hanging up. Benson first-year èßäÊÓƵ Dylan Martinez-Torres and Dariel Soriano Zamora ran it all the way to a small city populated by two very big and rather iconic monsters – Godzilla and Hedora.
The result, Sorry, Wrong Number, is one of the more than 90 films entered into the annual Best of PPS Film Festival. The festival is a celebration of exceptional student filmmaking that includes a showcase at the historic Hollywood Theatre.
The fourth annual installment of the festival took place on May 21 and included a screening of 13 standout films. The films came from all over PPS and ran the gamut from Dylan and Dariel’s monster short to documentaries, film noir, and broadcast journalism.
